Police Rescue Kidnap Victim, Recover Stolen Vehicle In Ondo

Men of the Ondo State Police Command have rescued a 61-year-old woman who was abducted by armed men in Owo on June 23, 2026.

It was gathered that the armed men broke into the house of the victim at about 2:50 a.m. on the fateful day and took her away.

The assailants were also said to have stolen her Toyota Matrix car in the attack.

The spokesperson of Ondo State Police Command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, confirmed the incident in a statement made available to journalists in Akure on Wednesday.

“Upon receipt of the information, the Divisional Police Officer immediately mobilised his operatives and launched a coordinated pursuit of the fleeing suspects.

“The police team intercepted the hoodlums around the outskirts and bush area of Ojana Phase 3, where an exchange of gunfire ensued,” Jimoh partly wrote.

According to him, the police operatives overpowered the armed men and successfully rescued the victim and recovered the stolen vehicle.

He revealed that the suspects fled into the surrounding bush, with some believed to have sustained gunshot injuries during the exchange of fire with the police.

The police image maker further disclosed that some items that were abandoned at the scene by the assailants have been recovered by the police.

“Exhibits recovered from the scene include two expended cartridges, one sandal believed to have been abandoned by one of the fleeing suspects, and one torch light.

“Efforts have been intensified to apprehend the fleeing members of the criminal gang. The case has been referred to the appropriate investigative unit for discreet and comprehensive investigation aimed at identifying, arresting and prosecuting all those connected with the crime.” Jimoh added.
