AC Milan have sacked head coach Massimiliano Allegri following the club’s failure to qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League.
The Serie A giants announced the decision on Monday as part of a sweeping overhaul that also saw the exits of CEO Giorgio Furlani, Sporting Director Igli Tare and Technical Director Geoffrey Moncada.
Milan confirmed the changes in a statement released by the club.
The statement read: “It’s time for change and a profound reorganization of the Club’s sporting department.
“Effective immediately, the tenures of CEO Giorgio Furlani, Sporting Director Igli Tare, Head Coach Massimiliano Allegri, and Technical Director Geoffrey Moncada at AC Milan have come to an end.
“We extend our thanks to each of them for their work and dedication during their tenure at the Club.”
The club added that new appointments would be announced before preparations begin for next season.
The statement added: “Further announcements regarding the new appointments will be made as soon as they are finalized, with the aim of having a structure ready for next season.”
Owners RedBird, led by businessman Gerry Cardinale, reportedly described the season as an “unequivocal failure” after Milan missed out on a top-four finish.
Milan entered the final day of the Serie A season needing only a point to qualify for the Champions League but surrendered a 1-0 lead to lose 2-1 at home to Cagliari Calcio and dropped to fifth place.
The Rossoneri will now play in the Europa League next season alongside Juventus FC.
Reports also claimed senior club adviser Zlatan Ibrahimović pushed strongly for a complete technical reset after his relationship with Allegri deteriorated.
Allegri returned to Milan in May 2025 for a second spell in charge after leaving Juventus in controversial circumstances following an explosive fallout after their Coppa Italia triumph.
The 58-year-old has now been dismissed exactly one year into his two-year contract after failing to secure Champions League qualification.
