The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has commended the conduct of the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primaries in Delta State, describing the exercise as credible and reflective of internal democracy.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Keyamo congratulated the winners of the three senatorial districts—Ifeanyi Okowa (Delta North), Ede Dafinone (Delta Central), and Joel-Onowapo Thomas (Delta South)—noting that their victories were well deserved.
He said the primaries recorded a large turnout of party members across ward levels and were conducted in a largely free and fair manner.
According to him, the exercise stands out as the best organised by the APC in Delta State since its formation.
“As a foundation member and leader of the APC in Delta State, and one of the first senatorial aspirants of the party in 2013, I can state unequivocally that this is the best primaries organised by the party in the state since its inception,” he said.
Keyamo called for reconciliation within the party, urging aspirants who lost the primaries to accept the outcome and support the winners in the interest of unity and electoral success in the 2027 general elections.
He also advised the victorious candidates to be magnanimous in victory by reaching out to their opponents and integrating them and their supporters into their political structures.
The minister further commended Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, for what he described as inclusive and purposeful leadership, expressing confidence in his political future.
Keyamo also lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for promoting internal democracy within the APC and allowing a transparent primary process nationwide.
He criticised aspirants who relied on influence from Abuja rather than grassroots engagement, saying the outcome of the primaries should serve as a lesson in party-building.
The minister urged APC members and supporters across the country to remain steadfast and committed, expressing optimism about the party’s chances in the 2027 elections.
