On Monday, transport operations in the country ground to a halt after protests occasioned by the historic increase in fuel prices in the country as recently announced by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA).

In Githurai, a black vehicle was set ablaze by protesters, and the owner now narrates how having UDA campaign materials in the doomed car led to the incident.

Speaking to the media, Priscilla narrated that her husband was the one driving when he encountered the vicious protesters.

“My husband was free, and so I asked him to drive to Kamakis to buy some construction materials in Kamakis. We did not know that the protests would be this violent because they had been branded as peaceful demonstrations. However, when he arrived in Githurai, things went south after the protesters saw some UD campaign materials in the car,” she said.

According to Priscilla, the protesters set the car on fire, with her husband escaping to safety narrowly.

“They were vexed by the UDA campaign materials, which belong to me because I am running for an MCA seat in the coming elections,” she added.

The woman said her husband reported the matter to the Kasaranin Police Station, adding that she and her husband have not yet mustered the courage to go check on what was left of their vehicle.

“We hope to go tomorrow and see if there is anything that can be salvaged,” she said.
