Residents of Kipkenyo in Uasin Gishu county were left tickled and bursting into laughter as their Member of County Assembly (MCA), David Letting, also fondly known as Kokwas, delivered a memorable speech during a public event attended by the governor.

Kokwas was given an opportunity to address the residents and confidently shared his life journey, from dropping out of school in 1970 at the nursery level to making the bold decision to return to school in 2020.
While his story inspired many, residents were also impressed by his effort to speak fluently and confidently. He fumbled at times but communicated with conviction, leaving the crowd both cheering and laughing.

“First of all, our governor, I want to take this opportunity to thank you. Everything I want to tell you is the truth. I left school in 1970, and in the last about five years I tried returning to Standard Eight and scored 158 in the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education,” he said.

Kokwas noted that he held a celebration with his community to mark his performance, which encouraged him to register for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) as a private candidate.
What grade did Kipkenyo MCA score in KCSE
In 2024, he sat for KCSE and scored a mean grade of D-.
“I was expecting to get an E, but God helped me to get a D-. I defeated 48,000 people and I appreciate the grade because it reflects my ability. Even if I do not understand English well, when you speak to me, I will understand and respond,” he added.
His speech and attempt at fluency caught the attention of many online, sparking mixed reactions from netizens.
