Kogi East APC group rejects senatorial primary, petition Tinubu

Leaders of the All Progressives Congress in Kogi East Senatorial District have rejected the outcome of the party’s senatorial primary election conducted on May 18, 2026, calling on President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the matter.

In a statement issued on Wednesday and signed by its representatives, Ibrahim Mohammed, the leaders said they were dissatisfied with the conduct and outcome of the primary election in the district.

The leaders maintained that the process did not reflect the expectations of party members in Kogi East and urged the APC leadership to review the situation in the interest of party unity.

According to the statement, some party members expressed concern over the voting results announced in certain polling units involving prominent aspirants.

“It defies logic for anyone to claim that a serving senator scored zero votes in his own polling unit. Does this imply that the candidate, along with his relatives, aides, and supporters, failed to vote?” the statement read.

The leaders also questioned the outcome recorded for other aspirants, including Dr Kashim Akor and Muritala Ajaka.

“How can it be asserted that figures like Dr Kashim Akor or Muritala Ajaka received zero votes? Are we to believe these candidates did not vote for themselves?” the group asked.

The group warned that unresolved disagreements arising from the primary could affect party cohesion ahead of future elections.

They urged the APC leadership to learn from past political experiences and strengthen internal democracy within the party.

“The downfall of the Peoples Democratic Party began with the erosion of internal democracy. The APC must not tread the same path,” the statement added.

The group appealed to President Tinubu to intervene and engage Governor Usman Ododo and former Governor Yahaya Bello on the concerns raised by party leaders in the district.

According to the group, addressing the dispute promptly would help preserve unity and stability within the APC in Kogi State.
