Former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has called on his supporters and Nigerians across the country to register en masse with the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, following his defection to the party.

Mr Kwankwaso made the appeal in a post shared on his X handle on Monday, barely 24 hours after formally joining the NDC.

The former presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, said his decision to align with the party was driven by a strong commitment to democratic values and the need to build a credible political platform for Nigerians.

“Yesterday, we took a bold and decisive step by formally joining the Nigeria Democratic Congress,” Kwankwaso stated.

According to him, the move reflects “a deep commitment to democratic values” and a determination to create opportunities for citizens to achieve their aspirations.

“We are determined to provide our people with a credible platform where they can thrive and realise their full potential,” he added.

Mr Kwankwaso also urged Nigerians who are passionate about good governance and democratic development to identify with the party and support its mission.

“I therefore call on all our dedicated supporters and well-meaning Nigerians to join the NDC and stand with us in this renewed fight for good governance and true democracy,” he said.

His defection to the NDC is seen as part of ongoing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
