Kwara seeks stakeholders’ support for digital healthcare reform

The Kwara State Government has called on stakeholders in the health sector to collaborate on developing a workable digital healthcare implementation plan aimed at improving healthcare delivery across the state.

The call was made during the opening of a three-day workshop on the development of a State-Specific Implementation Roadmap for the National Digital Health Initiative held in Ilorin.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Press Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Saad Hamdalat, the workshop is expected to produce a practical roadmap for implementing digital healthcare reforms in the state.

Speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Taoheed Abdullahi, who represented the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Amina El-Imam, said the engagement was designed to adapt national health policies to the realities of Kwara State.

The commissioner said: “The process is not merely a technical exercise, but a critical pathway to translate national health policies, priorities and commitments into practical actions tailored to the unique realities, opportunities and challenges of Kwara State.”

She said the implementation roadmap would strengthen coordination, accountability and resource mobilisation within the health sector.

“The implementation roadmap will provide a clear direction for coordinated execution of digital health initiatives, efficient resource mobilization, improved accountability, and measurable impact across the health sector,” she said.

Amina noted that digital transformation had become increasingly important in achieving efficient and sustainable healthcare delivery.

She said: “The digitalisation of health systems remains key to achieving Universal Health Coverage and improving access to quality healthcare services for all residents.”

The commissioner also urged stakeholders participating in the workshop to contribute practical ideas capable of producing an inclusive and result-driven plan.

She said: “The roadmap must be realistic, inclusive, cost-effective, and aligned with national priorities as well as the specific healthcare needs of the state.”

Also speaking, the Focal Person of the National Digital Health Initiative, Dr. Kudirat Lambe, said the workshop would assess Kwara State’s readiness for digital healthcare implementation.

She said: “The workshop is designed to review existing state initiatives, frameworks, and guidelines.

“It will also assess Kwara State’s digital health landscape, infrastructure, and maturity level.”

Lambe added that the workshop would help develop a four-year implementation plan aimed at improving healthcare coordination and service delivery across the state.
