The Labour Party has cautioned its members, supporters, and aspirants against purchasing nomination forms allegedly issued by the embattled former National Chairman, Julius Abure, describing such documents as invalid and “worthless paper.”
In a statement issued on Sunday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ken Asogwa, said the warning became necessary following reports and social media images showing Abure allegedly distributing nomination forms in Abia State.
The party stressed that only forms issued through its recognised leadership structure are valid, insisting that Nenadi Usman remains the authentic National Chairman, and that all legitimate nomination forms for the 2027 general elections can only be obtained from the party’s National Secretariat in Utako, Abuja.
According to the statement, any nomination form obtained from Abure or any unauthorised source should be regarded as fraudulent. It also accused him of impersonation and attempting to mislead unsuspecting aspirants ahead of the elections.
The Labour Party further questioned Abure’s alleged activities in Abia State, warning that the state governor, Alex Otti, would not tolerate political manipulation, intimidation, or actions aimed at undermining the party’s structure in the state.
The party maintained that Abure’s continued claim to leadership amounts to criminal impersonation with serious legal implications.
Efforts to get a response from Abure were unsuccessful as his telephone line was unreachable at the time of filing this report.
The development comes amid ongoing leadership disputes within the Labour Party, following a tussle between Abure and the Nenadi Usman-led caretaker committee. The crisis escalated after a Court of Appeal ruling reportedly affirmed the Usman-led leadership, a decision Abure has rejected, insisting he will challenge it at the Supreme Court.
The appellate court had upheld an earlier Federal High Court judgment recognising the caretaker committee as the legitimate leadership of the party, while the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) also reportedly aligned with the Usman-led structure.
