Senator Lindsey Graham has been branded “pathetic” after he called for the Nobel Peace Prize to be renamed after President Trump.
Graham made the remark while speaking about Trump’s suggestion that Middle Eastern nations should sign up to the Abraham Accords amid efforts to end the war with Iran.
If the president succeeds, Graham says the prestigious peace award should be renamed as the “Trump Prize.”
“If he can pull this off, if he can get Saudi Arabia, the center of Islam for the entire world, to recognize the Jewish state Israel, he’ll have ended the Arab-Israeli conflict that’s been going on for thousands of years,” Graham claimed on Wednesday’s episode of Fox News’ Hannity.
Graham went on to declare, “They should change the Nobel Prize to the Trump Prize.”
Trump has been open about wanting a Nobel Peace Prize, claiming in the Oval Office last year, “I deserve it, but they will never give it to me.”
María Corina Machado, a prominent opposition leader to now-deposed President Nicolás Maduro, presented her Nobel Peace Prize to Trump in January. Earlier that same month, U.S. forces had seized Maduro in Caracas.
Graham’s suggestion that the prestigious prize should be renamed after Trump was quickly mocked online, with the Veterans for Responsible Leadership uploading a cutting post on X.
“There’s really not much to say about Lindsey anymore,” the post read. “He is just a sad, pathetic little man.”
Republicans Against Trump, a X account which describes itself as being made up of “pro-democracy conservatives” and “Republicans fighting Trump”, also criticized Graham’s claim.
“Lindsey’s groveling ahead of South Carolina’s GOP primary is reaching humiliating levels,” the account posted.
Writer and director Andy Ostroy wrote, “Girl, stop. You’re humiliating yourself…”
Mehdi Hasan, the founder of media company Zeteo, was blunt in his response on X. “FFS,” he wrote.
On Monday, Trump demanded on Truth Social that, amid diplomatic efforts to end the war with Iran, multiple Middle Eastern countries should sign the Abraham Accords.
The Abraham Accords are a set of diplomatic agreements aimed at normalizing relations with Israel. The countries listed by Trump in a lengthy Truth Social post included Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Pakistan, Türkiye, Egypt, Jordan, and Bahrain.
Both Bahrain and the UAE are already signatories of the Accords, something Trump acknowledged in his post.
