A 37-year-old man, Ziaulihak Zakari, popularly known as Abuja, has allegedly confessed to receiving ₦500,000 to carry out an acid attack on a female spa worker in the Lakowe area of Lagos State.
The incident, which has drawn widespread concern, reportedly occurred when the victim, identified as Olorunseunfunmi Awosogbon, responded to a home-service booking connected to her work as a spa therapist.
According to police findings and accounts from the ongoing investigation, the victim was attacked after arriving at a location around the Lakowe Golf Gate axis in Ibeju-Lekki.
She was allegedly confronted and doused with a corrosive substance by the suspect, resulting in severe injuries to her head, chest, and hands. She was later rushed to a medical facility where she received emergency treatment and survived the attack, though with significant trauma.
During interrogation, Zakari allegedly admitted involvement in the attack and claimed he was hired by an unidentified individual known as Daniel.
He reportedly stated that he was promised ₦500,000 to carry out the assault and claimed he initially hesitated before accepting the assignment. Zakari also alleged that he mistook the victim for the intended target.
In his words during questioning, he reportedly said he attacked the wrong person.
Preliminary investigations suggest the attack may be linked to a contract-style arrangement, allegedly involving other individuals who coordinated the operation. Authorities are also examining claims that the corrosive substance used in the attack was supplied by persons connected to the suspected sponsors.
The motive is believed to be tied to a personal dispute involving individuals connected to the victim’s professional circle, although police say investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.
Both Zakari and another suspect identified as Owolabi Daniel have been arraigned before a Magistrate Court in Ebute-Metta, Lagos State.
