Man gives Keke rider ₦500 after he returned ₦2.5 million mistakenly transferred to him

A Nigerian man has sparked reactions online after sharing the story of a commercial tricycle rider, popularly known as a keke rider, who reportedly returned ₦2.5 million mistakenly transferred to his account by a passenger.

The incident, shared on X, highlighted the rider’s honesty despite facing financial temptation after discovering the huge sum in his account.

According to the narrator, the keke rider explained that the incident happened shortly after he dropped off a passenger at a bank earlier in the day.

The passenger allegedly intended to transfer ₦2,500 for transportation but mistakenly sent ₦2.5 million instead.

Recounting the experience, the man quoted the rider as saying the unexpected bank alert left him confused and overwhelmed with different thoughts.

My keke guy told me something this morning that left me speechless,” the X user wrote.

The passenger he carried to the bank this morning mistakenly transferred N2.5 million to him instead of N2,500.”

He added that the rider discovered the error while eating at a restaurant after completing the trip.

He noticed the alert after stopping at a restaurant to eat, and according to him, all kinds of thoughts started running through his head at once,” he stated.

Despite the temptation, the rider reportedly decided to return the money immediately. He drove from Abakpa to Independence Layout in search of the passenger and eventually located him inside the bank.

But despite everything, he drove all the way back from Abakpa to Independence Layout, walked into the bank, found the man, and informed him immediately,” the post continued.

According to the narration, the passenger was shocked after checking his transaction alert and confirming the mistake.

The man checked his debit alert, shouted ‘Jesus!’ in shock, and realized the mistake,” the post added.

However, what sparked outrage online was the alleged reward given to the rider after returning the money.

The narrator claimed the passenger only handed the keke rider ₦500 for his honesty and transportation expenses.

After recovering N2.5 million, the only thing the man gave my keke rider for his honesty and fuel was N500. Just five hundred naira,” he wrote.

“It wasn’t even enough to compensate the fuel he wasted to look for him.”
