Officers of the Nigerian Police Force attached to Mopol 54, Onitsha, have been commended after they were spotted carrying out community service by repairing damaged sections of the road around the Idemili River axis in Anambra State.
The officers were seen patching dangerous portions of the road that have become a major concern for motorists at the start of the 2026 rainy season. Residents and road users described the road as a serious death trap due to its deteriorating condition and the lack of intervention from the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA).
Many residents praised the police officers for stepping in to protect lives and properties, noting that this is not the first time officers from Mopol 54 have undertaken such repair work in the area.
The development has sparked positive reactions online, with many Nigerians saying it is important to acknowledge good conduct by security agencies whenever it occurs.
Observers noted that while FERMA has continued to face criticism over poor road maintenance in the area, the officers chose to take practical action to ease the suffering of commuters and reduce the risk of accidents.
Residents also called on the Anambra State Police Command to encourage more community-focused initiatives among officers, saying such actions could help improve public trust and strengthen the relationship between the police and the people.
The Idemili River road remains one of the major routes used by motorists in the area, especially during the rainy season when flooding and potholes often worsen traffic and increase the risk of accidents.
