Lagos, Nigeria — Authorities at the have commenced testing of water supplied to some student hostels following reports of vomiting, diarrhoea, and other health concerns among students on campus.
The development comes after several students reportedly complained of sudden gastrointestinal symptoms, raising fears that the hostel water supply may have been contaminated. In response, university management initiated an investigation and collected water samples from affected hostels for laboratory analysis.
According to reports, the university is working to determine whether the illnesses were linked to the water supply or resulted from other possible causes. Officials have assured students that the situation is being closely monitored and that appropriate measures will be taken once the test results are available.
The institution has also urged students to remain calm while investigations continue. As a precautionary measure, students have been advised to pay close attention to personal hygiene and seek medical attention if they experience symptoms such as persistent vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach cramps, or dehydration.
Water quality concerns have occasionally surfaced within the university community in previous years, prompting efforts by management to improve treatment facilities and maintain water infrastructure across campus residences.
