U.S. Senator Ted Cruz has praised recent counterterrorism efforts linked to former President Donald Trump, following reports that an ISIS-affiliated commander, Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, and other militant leaders were eliminated.
In a statement shared on his verified Twitter account, Cruz commended Trump, U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, and the U.S. Africa Command (United States Africa Command) for what he described as a decisive operation targeting individuals allegedly responsible for attacks against Christian communities in Nigeria.
Cruz stated that Nigeria has seen some of the highest numbers of Christians killed because of their faith, stressing that the issue demands greater global attention. He also criticized Nigerian authorities, claiming that certain policies, including the enforcement of blasphemy laws, have contributed to an environment where such violence is allowed to continue.
The senator further noted that he has been actively working to identify officials he believes are complicit in enabling these conditions. He added that efforts are underway in the United States to pass legislation aimed at holding those individuals accountable through sanctions and other measures.
