The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has emphasised that the patriotism, selfless service, and courage of fallen heroes remain a source of inspiration to the Nigerian Army.
He said this on Sunday at the Interdenominational Church Service held to mark the Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) 2026.
It took place at the All Saints Protestant Church, Mogadishu Cantonment, Asokoro, Abuja.
The COAS, represented by the Commander, Army Headquarters Garrison, Major General Maxwell Dangana, described the service as part of the significant activities lined up to celebrate the Nigerian Army’s 163rd anniversary.
Shaibu noted that the occasion honours the heroes, their sacrifices, and their unwavering commitment to national service.
While commending troops for their sacrifices and dedication, he charged personnel to continue to serve the nation with courage, discipline, and professionalism across various theatres of operation nationwide.
Earlier in his sermon, the Director, Chaplain Services Roman Catholic, Brigadier General Francis Maimagani, urged troops to serve God and humanity faithfully through their vocation as military personnel.
Maimagani also enjoined officers and soldiers to remain courageous and steadfast in the discharge of their statutory responsibilities.
The event was attended by the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (retd.), represented by Major General Henry Wesley (retd.), representatives of the Chief of Defence Staff, Service Chiefs, Principal Staff Officers from Defence and Services Headquarters, senior officers both serving and retired, officers and soldiers, members of the Nigerian Army Officers Wives Association as well as members of the Soldiers Wives Association among others.
