‘My children were taken away from me because I married into a very wealthy family’: Actress Bukky Wright (Video)

Veteran Nollywood actress Bukky Wright has shared the emotional reason behind her decision to pursue a career in acting, revealing that she joined the movie industry after her children were taken away from her at a very young age.…....

Speaking during an emotional interview at the Scar2Shine Emiralty Connect event, the celebrated actress disclosed that fame and celebrity status were never part of her original ambition. According to her, acting became a way for her children to one day recognize her and reconnect with her in the future.

“I actually started acting so that when my children grew up, they would be able to know exactly where to find me. I never thought of being a star,” she revealed.

The veteran actress further detailed that losing access to her children was tied to a difficult past marriage. After marrying into a highly affluent family, she found herself looked down upon by her in-laws, who doubted she would ever amount to anything in life.

“My children were taken from me when they were very young because I married into a very wealthy family, and they could not think I would become anything in this life,” Wright stated, drawing a wave of supportive applause from the audience. “And here I am today.”

Despite the painful separation during their early years, Wright successfully reconnected with her family, bringing her initial strategy to use the silver screen as a beacon completely full circle.

After building a legendary career in Nigeria, she later relocated abroad to be fully present in her children’s adult lives. This journey of reconciliation culminated in a major family milestone in late 2025, when she celebrated the beautiful wedding of her son, Eniola, to his partner, Sara Bonet.

Reflecting on the ceremony, the proud mother shared her joy and gratitude online, writing: “I rejoiced and was glad with so much gratitude to Allah for sparing my life to see my baby boy get married… Thanks for making me a proud mother.”
