What left Sheila flabbergasted was not the idea of taking his girlfriend out, but the place and amount of money he needed to make it happen.

Where did teenager want to celebrate his birthday with his girlfriend?
“Hi, so I wanted to say on my birthday, I was planning to go with my girlfriend on a date to Tribe Hotel, so I was asking if you could send me like KSh 6,000 on that day if that’s okay with you,” said the boy.
The shocked mother advised her son to avoid setting such high standards while still a student, encouraging him to choose a more student-friendly and appropriate location for the date.
He defended himself, saying his girlfriend had also bought him food before and taken him out on a date, so he wanted to return the romantic gesture.
“Tribe Hotel is for the working class, people paying their own bills. Can’t you go somewhere student-appropriate, like pizza at Galleria? You are turning 20 and taking a girl to a 5-star hotel is unnecessary pressure for a student,” said the mother.

“I don’t know why people are taking it so personally, yawa. For the young man to ask you for the money and openly state the purpose… kudos mama, you’ve done well. He had options of saying it’s for a school project… eeeiish. I’ve seen that 6k should be for a side hustle.”
Limen Tuga:
“First, congratulations, parent. The boy is open with you. Secondly, that suggestion of Galleria is a plus… a good opportunity to know what standards to set and for whom. If it was his sister he’s taking to Tribe, I would have funded and joined, but for a girlfriend, we are not sure of the longevity of the relationship.”
Gacheri:
“If he starts setting high standards like that, there will be no going back. Next it will be JW Marriott or Kempinski. Let him cut his coat according to his size.”

“I love the young man. My son is 16 and he takes himself to 5-star hotels. He has done so for the longest time. He saves his allowance for the good life. I have exposed him to that lifestyle—not because I have a lot, but because I want him exposed to those standards. He has a dream. Fund the young man, mama.”
