The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has distanced itself from results of its recently concluded nationwide primaries circulating on social media, insisting that only its National Executive Council (NEC) is authorised to announce the official outcome.
The party warned the public and stakeholders to disregard the purported results, stressing that the authentic outcomes of the primaries held on May 28 and 29, 2026, remain under the custody of the NEC.
In a statement issued in Abuja, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, announced that a NEC meeting has been convened to deliberate on the primaries and other related matters.
“The general public is hereby urged to disregard the various results circulating on social media as the outcome of the nationwide primaries conducted by the Nigeria Democratic Congress,” he said.
“The results of the primaries are with the National Executive Council, which is solely responsible for announcing them.”
He further disclosed that the NEC meeting was summoned on the directive of the party’s National Leader, Seriake Dickson.
“On the order of the National Leader, a NEC meeting of the party has been called. All NEC members are to arrive in Abuja for a pre-NEC meeting on Tuesday, June 2, while the main NEC meeting will hold on Wednesday, June 3, 2026,” he added.
The party assured members that the official list of candidates would be released after due ratification and before submission to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
“The general public and stakeholders will be informed of the results of our primaries when we submit the list of candidates to fly our party’s flag to INEC,” the statement noted.
The clarification comes amid growing speculation over the outcome of the party’s primaries held nationwide ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Observers say the emergency NEC meeting will be crucial in ratifying results and resolving any disputes arising from the exercise before the final list is forwarded to INEC.
