According to a report by Daily Post on Saturday, May 30, 2026, human rights activist, Aisha Yesufu, has clarified that she did not withdraw from her ambition to contest for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) senatorial seat under the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), contrary to reports circulating in the media.
She stated that the portrayal of her stepping down from the race was inaccurate and did not reflect what actually transpired during the political process.
In a post shared on her verified X handle on Saturday, Yesufu called on media organizations to correct what she described as misleading headlines suggesting that she had abandoned her senatorial ambition.
She emphasized that the reports had misrepresented her position and created a narrative that did not align with her actions throughout the political contest.
The co-convener of the BringBackOurGirls Movement further explained that she remained actively involved in the race until the end of the party’s selection process.
According to her, she participated fully in the struggle for the party’s senatorial ticket and did not voluntarily exit the race at any stage, despite how the outcome was eventually communicated in public reports.
Yesufu also commented on her broader political focus, stating that her attention in the current electoral cycle is directed more toward the 2027 presidential election.
She described the presidential contest as the most significant political prize within the cu rrent cycle, indicating where she believes national attention and political engagement should be concentrated.
