The Nigeria Federation of American Football (NFAF) will open its national training camp on Saturday at Meadow Hall, Lekki, Lagos, as preparations continue for the selection of players who will represent the country in upcoming international competitions.
All selected players have been directed to report to camp as the federation enters what officials described as a critical stage in building its national team structure.
The camp follows the conclusion of nationwide tryouts that attracted participation from players across different leagues and regions of the country.
Speaking ahead of the exercise, NFAF Technical Director Bodunrin Sasore said the federation’s technical crew and coaches were fully prepared for the task ahead.
Sasore said: “The coaches and I will be there because, as the person responsible for everything technical, I am working closely with the federation coaches to ensure the camp runs successfully.”
According to him, the camp will focus on player assessment, team structure, discipline, tactical understanding and physical preparation as the federation continues to narrow its selection process.
He added that all activities would begin at 8:00 a.m., with players expected to arrive early and fully prepared for the intensive sessions.
Attention will now shift to Meadow Hall, where coaches and officials face the task of identifying the players who will form Nigeria’s national American football teams.
Stakeholders believe the camping programme is an important step in the federation’s efforts to strengthen the technical foundation of American football in Nigeria while creating opportunities for talented athletes to compete on the international stage.
