According to a report by Daily post on sunday, May 17, 2026, Controversial Islamic scholar, Ahmad Gumi, has raised concerns about what he described as growing interest by the United States in Nigeria’s natural resources and national affairs.…....
His comments have added to ongoing public discussions about foreign influence in Nigeria and the country’s security challenges.
Gumi described Western countries as predators and warned that Nigerians should pay closer attention to international interests in the nation’s resources.
According to him, the attention being given to Nigeria by foreign powers is not entirely disconnected from the country’s economic value and strategic importance in Africa.
He stressed that while terrorism remains a serious concern, citizens should also pay attention to protecting the country’s independence and territorial integrity.
His comments appeared to reflect fears that foreign involvement in security matters could affect Nigeria’s control over its own affairs.
The Islamic scholar also spoke about the issue of military operations and the use of force against terrorist groups operating within the country.
He argued that aerial bombing of targets inside Nigeria should not require the involvement of foreign forces on Nigerian soil.
His statement suggested that Nigeria possesses enough capacity to handle such operations without depending heavily on outside intervention. Security issues, including terrorism and banditry, have remained major concerns across different parts of the country in recent years, leading to debates about international cooperation and military assistance.
In his statement, Gumi referred to the “Thucydides Trap,” a political theory that explains tensions between rising powers and established global powers.
The theory suggests that when an emerging power begins to challenge an existing dominant power, the resulting pressure can increase the possibility of conflict.
By mentioning the theory, Gumi appeared to connect present global political developments with broader struggles for influence and economic control around the world.
He suggested that competition among powerful nations often affects weaker countries, especially those with valuable natural resources and strategic importance.
He said, “Nigeria needs to listen to this man. The West is a predator. US’s attention is now on Nigerian resources.“Nobody cries for terrorists. But every patriotic citizen should cry for our sovereignty.”
