Residents online have reacted after a man lamented over an alleged ₦1.5 million monthly electricity bill in the upscale Lagoon District area of Lekki, despite continued complaints about unstable power supply.
According to reports shared online, the luxury apartments operate under Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) Band A tariff, which promises around 20 hours of electricity daily at ₦209.50 per kilowatt-hour.
The report claimed that many residents in the area spend heavily on electricity due to additional estate costs covering diesel generators, maintenance, and backup systems used during grid failures.
The viral statement read:
“This is the ‘Banana island of Lekki phase one’ in Lagos and they pay 1.5 million for electricity monthly. 1.5 million for residential and they still have to manage it”
The development sparked widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians expressing shock over the cost of electricity in elite estates.
