Lagos To Residents: You must participate in next sanitation

The Lagos State Government has told residents that they must all participate in the next environmental sanitation exercise.

The Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, stated this in a statement he issued on Thursday.

The Eagle Online is reporting that the next environmental sanitation across the state is scheduled for May 30, 2026 between 6:30am and 8:30am.

In a statement late on Thursday, Wahab commended residents for keying into the reinstated sanitation exercise, which officially started in April, adding that regular cleaning of the environment holds the key to healthy living and prosperity.

He urged all residents to use the 120 dedicated minutes to clean their homes, drains, and the totality of their environment.

He commended the massive participation of Lagosians in the exercise last month, urging residents to surpass it with more participation on Saturday.

He reiterated that the monthly exercise has come to stay.

Wahab stated that  the First Lady of Lagos State, Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, will be leading a set of officials of the State Government to Alimosho Local Government Area to monitor the exercise, while the Head of Service, Olabode Agoro, will also be heading other officials to Apapa Local Government Area.

He stated that enough compactor trucks have been mobilised to cart away all generated waste during and after the exercise.

He said all the 57 Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas are fully involved in the monthly sanitation monitoring exercise to ensure a cleaner Lagos.

He stressed that residents must fully embrace the initiative and take ownership in order to build a culture of cleanliness, saying that they must shun the attitude of living in a dirty and unhygienic environment.

He also warned residents who still patronise cart pushers to desist from the illegal act as the scope of the PSP Operators have been increased to further accommodate more residents and reach more neighbourhoods of the State.

Wahab emphasised that abatement notices will be issued to residents who refuse to clean their abode during the sanitation and would also have their dates in court.

He stressed that the State Government remains unwavering in its commitment to a clean, hygienic, and flood free environment, adding that Lagosians should desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuse into drains and unapproved sites.
