2026 Election: Oluyede Raises Alarm Over Alleged Police Partisanship In Ekiti Race

The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (Peoples Democratic Party) in the forthcoming Ekiti State election, Wole Oluyede, has raised serious concerns over the conduct of security agencies, alleging partiality and selective enforcement of the law ahead of the poll.

Oluyede, who spoke during an interview on Channels Television (Channels Television) programme, Politics Today, on Thursday, expressed apprehension over what he described as increasing evidence of bias by the police in Ekiti State.

He alleged that several of his supporters had been arrested under unclear circumstances, while individuals allegedly linked to the ruling All Progressives Congress were not subjected to similar scrutiny despite reported incidents of violence.

The PDP candidate said the pattern of arrests had made him question the neutrality of the police ahead of the governorship election.

“I am very wary and suspicious of the fairness of the present police force in Ekiti,” Oluyede said. “In situations where your supporters are being arrested for reasons that you don’t know and they can’t explain, and on the other hand, people allegedly attacking others with machetes are not arrested, then we need to question that.”

He insisted that the alleged disparity in law enforcement could undermine public confidence in the electoral process if not urgently addressed.

Beyond the security concerns, Oluyede also used the platform to highlight what he described as his developmental credentials, saying his decision to contest was driven by a long-standing commitment to the progress of Ekiti State.

According to him, his investments and contributions to the state over the years demonstrate his sincerity and readiness to govern.

He argued that unlike many politicians driven by godfatherism, his ambition was powered by popular support.

“The truth about it is on record. Everybody knows that the godfather I have is the people themselves,” he said.

When asked about the source of funding for his campaign, Oluyede maintained that he was not backed by any political godfather or powerful sponsor.

“The people. I have no godfather,” he added.

His comments come amid heightened political activity in Ekiti State as parties intensify campaigns ahead of the governorship election, with growing concerns over security, voter safety, and electoral fairness.
