The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has confirmed that its official website was recently compromised by suspected cyber attackers, in what appears to be another incident highlighting growing concerns over cybersecurity vulnerabilities in Nigeria’s public institutions.
The agency disclosed that it detected unauthorized access to its web platform and immediately initiated emergency response measures to contain the breach and restore normal functionality.
According to preliminary information, the intrusion affected the agency’s website operations, raising concerns that users may have been exposed to misleading or unauthorized content during the incident. Technical teams were quickly deployed to take control of the platform, isolate the breach, and begin restoration efforts.
NEMA has not yet confirmed whether any sensitive data was accessed or altered during the attack. However, officials say investigations are ongoing to determine the source, method, and extent of the compromise.
Following the incident, the agency urged members of the public to exercise caution when accessing information from the website. It warned against relying on any suspicious notices or messages that may have appeared during the period of compromise, stressing that only verified communication channels should be trusted.
