The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has reaffirmed its partnership with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to accelerate digital literacy and expand access to digital skills for young Nigerians.
The renewed collaboration was highlighted during a courtesy visit by an NYSC delegation led by Mrs Stella Owan, Deputy Director of Community Development Service, to NITDA headquarters. Both organisations aligned on strengthening capacity building efforts and preparing corps members with practical, market-ready digital skills.
NITDA said the partnership is focused on bridging Nigeria’s digital divide by equipping youths across the federation with competencies needed in today’s technology-driven economy. The agency also noted that the NYSC is working towards establishing a specialised training institute that will offer certification programmes tailored to corps members.
Discussions during the visit centred on curriculum development that reflects global technology trends, governance structures for the proposed institute, and ensuring alignment with national digital economy priorities.
Representing the Director-General of NITDA, Kashifu Inuwa CCIE, Mr Oladejo Olawumi, Director of Special Duties, assured the NYSC of the agency’s full technical and advisory support. He stated that the collaboration will play a key role in preparing Nigerian youths for emerging opportunities in the digital space.
“NITDA remains committed to equipping Nigerian youths with globally competitive digital skills needed to drive innovation,” Olawumi said. “We are ready to support the NYSC in implementing the National Digital Literacy Framework to ensure every corps member has a clear pathway to digital proficiency.”
The partnership is expected to strengthen the NYSC’s skill acquisition programmes and contribute to Nigeria’s broader digital transformation agenda. By combining NITDA’s technical expertise with the nationwide reach of the NYSC, both organisations aim to build a new generation of digitally skilled professionals capable of supporting economic growth.
