The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Anambra State Command, has reiterated its commitment to strengthening security in schools across the state under the Federal Government’s Safe Schools Initiative.
The State Commandant, Olatunde Maku, gave the assurance on Thursday during a courtesy visit by the newly appointed Principal of Federal Government Girls’ College, Onitsha, Mrs. Cornelina Ukama, at the NSCDC headquarters in Awka.
The visit, described as a familiarization meeting following Mrs. Ukama’s assumption of office, focused on strengthening collaboration between the school and the security agency.
Speaking during the visit, Mrs. Ukama expressed appreciation to the NSCDC for its continued security support to the institution over the years. She also pledged to enhance cooperation with the Corps in areas such as security awareness, discipline, and emergency preparedness.
In his response, Commandant Maku reaffirmed the Corps’ dedication to protecting schools, students, and staff across the state. He stated that the NSCDC would continue to provide effective security coverage and rapid response support to the college and other educational institutions in Anambra.
According to him, ensuring a safe and secure learning environment remains a key priority for the Corps under the Safe Schools Initiative.
The Commandant also highlighted the longstanding relationship between the NSCDC and the college, noting that the partnership has contributed significantly to the safety of both the school community and residents of the surrounding area.
The meeting ended with both parties agreeing to deepen collaboration through intelligence sharing, sensitization programmes, and emergency response drills aimed at improving school safety.
