Doctors Travan Jasper and Travis Jasper, 56-year-old identical twins, made headlines after returning home from Georgia to work and lead a local hospital’s emergency department.
The twins were co-valedictorians at their Richmond high school and were both admitted to the same university and medical school, becoming the first members of their family to attend college.

Travan and Travis took on new roles as co-medical directors of the emergency department at HCA Healthcare’s Chippenham Hospital in Richmond.
“It’s an honour to have the opportunity to care for people you know and are close to,” Travis Jasper said in a report by ABC News.
The twins admitted they initially had concerns about returning home to practise medicine, noting that they were nervous about treating people they had grown up with.
To overcome those fears and settle into their roles, the Jasper twins organised a meeting with childhood friends and members of their neighbourhood to share the news of their appointment at the local hospital.
“One of the things we did was call all those people we grew up with and ask them to come to Chippenham if they wanted excellent care in the emergency department because we were going to be part of it,” Travis recalled.
Lance Jones, the CEO of HCA Healthcare’s Chippenham Hospital, described the Jasper brothers as a valuable asset to the healthcare facility.

“Their shared commitment to clinical excellence, collaboration and compassionate care reflects our mission to care for and improve human life,” Jones said.
Do the Jasper twins have families?
Outside the hospital, the twin brothers are devoted parents and are actively involved in a youth basketball organisation that inspires and mentors young people.
The twins said they are competitive but also deeply supportive of one another and have never experienced significant difficulties working together.
“That’s always what’s been special for me,” Travis Jasper said, describing his brother as his “superpower. We’ve both been very effective directors and leaders at separate hospitals, but we’ve always had the same advantage, we had each other.”
The twins advised anyone hoping to follow in their footsteps not to give up despite the challenges they may encounter and to remain open to different paths towards achieving their dreams.
According to the Jasper twins, the bumps and trials they encountered throughout their journey helped shape them into the people they are today.
“When I go to see a patient, there’s only one objective, and that’s to do some good for them,” he said. “There’s no other objective. There are no concerns about money or how we’re going to cover this. It’s always, ‘I’m here to help you.”
