Former Kaduna Central Senator , Shehu Sani, has said political defections are legally allowed in Nigeria and called on supporters to stop insulting political aspirants over party movements.
Sani made the comment in a cryptic post on his X handle on Saturday, where he used football clubs as an analogy to address growing speculation around key opposition figures.
He reacted to reports suggesting that African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftains, Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, may be preparing to move to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) next week.
According to him, political “transfers” are legitimate and should not be met with hostility or abuse from supporters.
He wrote, “Transfers are legally permitted. Allow Peter and Kwankwaso to leave Athletico Madrid to Nothingham Forest FC.
“It’s wrong to insult them,” he added.
NAIJAONPOINT reports that since the All Opposition Political Party Leaders’ summit held in Ibadan, Oyo State, late last month, Peter Obi has not attended subsequent ADC meetings, heightening speculation about a possible defection.
Kwankwaso and Obi were also absent from ADC meetings held this week, further fuelling rumours of internal realignments within the opposition bloc.
Meanwhile, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is said to be strengthening his position as a leading contender for the ADC presidential ticket amid the unfolding political developments.
