Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), describing the situation within his former party as “unredeemable for now.”
The governor announced his decision on Saturday following consultations with key stakeholders, coming in the wake of the Supreme Court of Nigeria ruling on the PDP leadership crisis.
Mohammed said the internal disputes within the PDP, worsened by the nullification of parallel conventions by the court, had created a leadership vacuum and uncertainty about the party’s future.
He explained that his defection followed extensive engagements with political leaders nationwide, adding that the move represents a strategic repositioning to ensure political stability and future electoral success.
Despite leaving, Mohammed expressed gratitude to the PDP for its role in his political journey.
He disclosed that steps have already begun to facilitate his transition into the APM, including setting up a compliance committee and initiating membership registration, alongside engagement with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Welcoming him into the party, APM National Chairman Yusuf Mamman Dantalle described the governor as a committed democrat and said the party is guided by principles of integrity, service, and people-oriented leadership.
