Okowa Defeats Nwoko in Delta North APC Primary

Former Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, has emerged winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary for the Delta North Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general election.

Okowa recorded a sweeping victory over incumbent senator, Ned Nwoko, and Dr. Maryam Ali during the primary election held across the nine local government areas in the district.

Announcing the results on Monday, the APC Returning Officer, Prof. Johnbull Tonukari, said Okowa secured 113,309 votes to clinch the party’s ticket. Nwoko polled 2,612 votes, while Ali managed 40 votes.

Tonukari explained that the exercise was conducted peacefully, with delegates voting across all councils in Delta North.

According to the results, Okowa dominated the contest in nearly every local government area. In Ndokwa East, he polled 9,436 votes against Nwoko’s 79 votes and Ali’s 15 votes.

In Ika South, Okowa secured 9,763 votes, while Nwoko received 19 votes and Ali failed to record any vote.

The former governor also won convincingly in Oshimili North with 13,110 votes, leaving Nwoko with 287 votes.

In Ukwuani Local Government Area, Okowa polled 12,167 votes, while Nwoko got 105 votes and Ali recorded no vote.

Okowa also defeated Nwoko in the senator’s home local government area, polling 5,480 votes against Nwoko’s 1,343 votes.

Further results showed that Okowa scored 10,353 votes in Aniocha South and 11,616 votes in Oshimili South, while Nwoko secured 168 and 74 votes respectively in the two councils.

In Ika North East, Okowa recorded one of his biggest margins with 26,185 votes, while Nwoko polled 24 votes.

Tonukari added that Okowa also won Ndokwa West with 15,199 votes, while Nwoko secured 513 votes.

Following the announcement, APC leaders in the state officially declared Okowa winner of the primary, describing the exercise as peaceful, transparent, and credible.

Party members who monitored the exercise also praised officials and security personnel for ensuring a smooth and violence-free election across the district.
