Media aide and political commentator Lere Olayinka has reacted after former President Goodluck Jonathan reportedly failed to appear for the submission of a presidential nomination form during an event organised by a political group linked to preparations for the 2027 general elections.…....
In his reaction, Olayinka criticised the organisers of the planned nomination exercise and mocked efforts allegedly connected to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and former minister Kabiru Turaki.
According to Olayinka, the organisers had prepared a venue for the event and reportedly waited for several hours in anticipation of Jonathan’s arrival to formally submit his nomination form.
He claimed that those involved in the arrangement remained at the venue from the morning until about 4 p.m., expecting the former president to appear. However, after Jonathan reportedly failed to show up, the organisers allegedly announced an indefinite postponement of the exercise.
The political commentator questioned the logic behind expecting Jonathan to participate in a process connected to what he described as a political structure that allegedly lacked official recognition from the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Olayinka also criticised the strategy behind the political move, arguing that it was unrealistic to expect a former president to openly associate himself with a platform whose legal and political standing remained uncertain.
The incident has since generated conversations across political circles and social media, with supporters and critics debating the seriousness of emerging political coalitions and alliances ahead of the 2027 elections.
Some observers argued that the situation reflects the ongoing struggle among opposition figures to build a strong and united political platform capable of challenging established parties in future elections.
Others, however, maintained that political consultations and alliance-building are still ongoing and that it may be too early to dismiss possible realignments ahead of the next presidential race.
As of the time the report was filed, neither Goodluck Jonathan nor representatives of Governor Makinde and Kabiru Turaki had officially responded to Olayinka’s remarks or the reports surrounding the postponed nomination exercise.
