Former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, has resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress, citing unresolved internal crises in the party’s Delta State chapter.
PLATFORM TIMES gathered that Omo-Agege announced his exit in a letter dated May 22, 2026, addressed to the APC chairman of Orogun Ward 2 in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
The development was confirmed on Wednesday in a statement issued in Asaba by his Media Aide, Mr Sunday Areh, who said the former lawmaker took the decision after wide consultations with his political associates and supporters.
Omo-Agege, who represented Delta Central in the Senate, said recent developments within the party in the state compelled him to reconsider his continued membership.
“I will not remain a sitting duck in a party where I cannot advance the interests of Delta Central, Delta State and Nigeria,” he was quoted as saying.
He added that his political aspirations and those of his constituents would be better pursued outside the APC.
The former Deputy Senate President, however, expressed appreciation to the ruling party for the opportunity to serve at the highest legislative level.
“I thank the APC for the privilege to serve as Deputy President of the 9th Senate. I wish the party well,” he said, adding that he had requested the removal of his name from all party records and communication platforms.
His resignation comes in the wake of mounting tensions within the Delta APC, following his loss in the party’s senatorial primary election for Delta Central to Senator Ede Dafinone.
Despite his exit, Omo-Agege reaffirmed his commitment to the political advancement and effective representation of his constituents, noting that he would continue to pursue these goals outside the ruling party.
The latest defection is expected to further reshape the political landscape in Delta State ahead of future electoral contests.
