Ondo Central Senatorial Race Heats Up as Adegbonmire, Fasoranti, Adu Emerge Key Contenders

The race for the Ondo Central Senatorial seat ahead of the 2027 general elections is gaining momentum, with three prominent political figures from Akure positioning themselves as frontrunners in what is shaping up to be a high-stakes contest.

Leading the pack is the incumbent senator, Adeniyi Adegbonmire (SAN), who currently represents Ondo Central at the National Assembly under the All Progressives Congress (APC). Adegbonmire is expected to leverage his incumbency, legislative track record, and party backing as he eyes a return to the Senate.

Challenging his position is Taiwo Fasoranti, a former Secretary to the Ondo State Government and son of Afenifere leader Reuben Fasoranti. His entry into the race introduces a strong political structure backed by legacy influence and longstanding alliances within the state’s progressive fold.

Also generating buzz is Olumuyiwa Adu, a legal practitioner and philanthropist popularly known as “Cubana.” Adu is steadily building grassroots support, particularly among youths and local communities, through philanthropic outreach and people-centered engagement.

Political observers note that the contest is likely to revolve around three defining factors: incumbency and experience in the case of Adegbonmire; political structure and family influence for Fasoranti; and grassroots appeal and social impact for Adu.

With Akure expected to play a decisive role due to its political weight in the district, analysts say local dynamics, alliances, and voter sentiment will be critical in determining the eventual party nominees and, ultimately, the winner of the senatorial seat.

As party primaries draw closer, stakeholders have called for peaceful engagement and issue-based campaigns, emphasizing the need for unity and collective progress across Ondo Central.

The unfolding contest not only highlights the evolving political landscape in the district but also underscores the importance of leadership that reflects the aspirations of the people.

Observers agree on one key message as the race intensifies: Akure must remain united, regardless of political differences.
