The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has shared an emotional testimony about the challenges he faced before the birth of his children, revealing that he was once mocked and accused of being impotent.
Speaking in a now-viral video during a celebration at his palace, the revered monarch recounted how his early marriages were plagued by childlessness, leading to widespread speculation and hurtful allegations.
According to him, his first wife, Olori Mariam Ogunwusi, did not have children for many years. He added that subsequent marriages also did not produce children, with some of the wives eventually leaving.
> “After I became Ooni, the wife I married for years, there were no children. The second and third wives too didn’t give birth and left. I was wondering if I had offended God,” he said.
The monarch further disclosed that the situation led to damaging rumors about his manhood, with some accusing him of sacrificing his potency for wealth and power.
> “Many people said I was impotent; they said I had used my manhood. It was said several times to my face. Eventually, God did it,” he added.
His remarks come shortly after the royal household announced the birth of a set of twins by Queen Mariam, a development that has sparked widespread celebration in Ile-Ife and beyond.
In the viral clip, the Ooni was seen surrounded by well-wishers and palace guests who gathered to celebrate the arrival of the newborns with songs and jubilation, marking what many have described as a moment of divine vindication for the monarch.
The birth of the twins is being hailed as a significant and joyous milestone for the throne of Ife, reinforcing cultural and spiritual sentiments around royalty, legacy, and divine timing.
