Oyo Attack: I’m Telling You Not Under My Watch; When I Was Governor,Those Guys Won’t Go Free-Amaechi

Former Rivers State Governor and former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has reacted strongly to the recent attack on schools in Oyo State, expressing concern over the worsening security situation in parts of the country.…....

Amaechi made the comments during an interview on Trust TV, where he reflected on his time in office and compared past security responses with current efforts by authorities.

The former governor said swift action against attackers was a priority during his tenure, insisting that criminals responsible for school attacks would not have been allowed to escape justice under his leadership.

Speaking during the interview, Amaechi stated, “I’m telling you not under my watch. When I was governor, those guys won’t go free. 3 or 4 days, we have arrested them.”

His remarks come amid renewed public concern following the abduction of schoolchildren in Oyo State, an incident that has sparked outrage across the country and renewed debates over the effectiveness of Nigeria’s security architecture. Parents, community leaders, and civil society groups have continued to call for stronger protection of educational institutions, which have increasingly become targets for armed groups and kidnappers.

Amaechi argued that decisive leadership and rapid response are key to preventing such incidents from escalating. He suggested that security agencies must be empowered and properly coordinated to ensure attackers are tracked and arrested within a short period after any incident.
