The Oyo State Government has suspended all school excursions, field trips, inter-school sports competitions, and other activities outside school premises following growing security concerns in the state.
The directive, issued through the Ministry of Education, came in the wake of the recent abduction attack on schools in Oriire Local Government Area, where students and teachers were kidnapped by suspected terrorists.
According to a circular signed by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mrs. B.T. Oyinloye, all previously approved trips and external school activities have been suspended with immediate effect as part of efforts to safeguard students and staff across the state.
The government stressed that the safety of students and teachers remains a top priority, noting that the temporary suspension will remain in place until further notice amid ongoing security assessments.
The decision comes amid heightened tension in Oyo State following recent attacks on schools in Ogbomoso and surrounding communities, which have triggered widespread concerns among parents, teachers, and residents over the safety of schools in the South-West region.
