PENKELEMESI’S GOVERNORSHIP DREAM COLLAPSES AS POLITICAL ‘SIGNALS’ TURN OUT TO BE MISREAD

A former minister popularly nicknamed Penkelemesi has become the subject of political satire after his ambitious governorship bid reportedly ended in disappointment, following what observers describe as a major “misinterpretation of political signals.”

According to accounts circulating within political circles, the drama began when the President allegedly asked him a simple but strategic question:

“Are you sure you will get the ticket?”

However, the former minister reportedly interpreted the statement as a congratulatory endorsement, setting off what insiders now call the “overconfidence sequence.”

Convinced of presidential backing, he resigned from the cabinet and declared readiness for the governorship race, telling associates that “politics is about structure.”

But party insiders say the structure he relied on proved weak, with one aide jokingly comparing it to “a faulty power grid—unreliable and unstable.”

Upon returning to his state for consultations, expectations of a grand reception reportedly fell flat, with sources describing the turnout as modest and heavily coordinated.

Despite warnings from party elders who repeatedly used cautious political phrases such as “we are praying for you” and “anything can happen,” the aspirant allegedly remained confident and escalated campaign activities.

His campaign reportedly featured heavy branding across Ibadan, including posters, billboards, merchandise, and branded items, which supporters described as “high energy,” while critics called it “high expenditure with uncertain returns.”

On the day of the primaries, however, reports indicate that key supporters became unreachable, agents went offline, and internal coordination collapsed as results began to emerge.

By the time final figures were announced, sources say the outcome had already been politically decided elsewhere, leaving the aspirant and his camp in shock.

Observers have since reflected on the episode as a classic lesson in political interpretation, where optimism reportedly outweighed intelligence signals.

The President’s earlier question is now being widely replayed in political commentary as the moment everything might have been reconsidered.

For Penkelemesi, however, the realization came late.

And according to amused observers across social media…

It came with what they described as “premium tears.”
