Peter Obi has called for urgent action to protect and invest in the future of Nigerian children, particularly the boy child, as he marked the International Day of the Boy Child with a message centered on insecurity, education and societal values.
In his statement, Obi expressed concern over the challenges confronting children in Nigeria, pointing to insecurity, mass abductions, hunger and inadequate investment in healthcare and education as major threats to their future. He said the current realities facing many children raise serious questions about how they can become tomorrow’s leaders if society fails to secure their well-being today.
The former presidential candidate noted that beyond access to education, the boy child must also be equipped with productive skills and guided with values capable of shaping responsible citizens and a better society.
Quoting global icons Nelson Mandela and Frederick Douglass, Obi stressed the importance of building strong children rather than trying to repair broken adults, warning that neglecting children today could create deeper societal problems in the future.
He also encouraged young boys not to abandon their dreams, assuring them that efforts must continue toward building a nation that secures their future and provides opportunities that match their talents and aspirations.
Obi concluded his message with his signature phrase: “A New Nigeria is Possible.”
