Police arrest 2 for armed robbery in Niger

The Police Command in Niger says it has arrested two suspects for armed robbery and recovered dangerous weapons in Minna.

This is contained in a statement by its Public Relations officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, on Wednesday in Minna.

Abiodun said that the arrest followed a report received on May 9,  at about 9.30 am by the Maitumbi Division from a hotel manager that two miscreants armed with weapons broke into the hotel and robbed some guests of their valuables.

He said that Police operatives attached to Maitumbi Division were immediately drafted to the scene, and subsequently, two suspects were arrested in the process.

The suspects are Abba Umar, 28 years and Zakariya Abubakar, 23 years, both of Sabon-Titi Minna and they were arrested with cutlasses, trespassing and robbing guests of the hotel.

He said that the suspects have been transferred to the SCID Minna for further investigation and diligent prosecution.

In another development, the Police in Minna said it has arrested a suspect for stealing a motorcycle in Mokwa, Niger.

He said that on May 5, at about 3am, a Police patrol team attached to Mokwa Division intercepted and arrested Hussaini Mohammed, 27 years of Guye-Doko village via Kwara with one Bajaj motorcycle suspected to be a stolen property.

During interrogation, the suspect confessed that the motorcycle belonged to his father, and that he left Kwara heading to Kontagora to sell the motorcycle.

He said that the suspect took the decision to sell the motorcycle without his father’s consent.

According to him, when his father was contacted, he denied giving his consent.

Abiodun said the suspect has been charged to court for prosecution. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
