The Police Command in Niger has arrested a suspected cultist with a pistol and military wears, in Bida, Niger.
A statement by the command’s Public Relations officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, on Tuesday in Minna, said that the suspect was arrested on April 22, during a routine stop and search near the Federal Polytechnic, Bida.
“Police operatives attached to ‘B’ Division Bida while on routine patrol arrested a 30-year-old man near the Federal Polytechnic, Bida on April 22 at 2:00a.m.
“It was reported that the suspect was observed on a motorcycle approaching a temporary Police checkpoint in Bida.
“But on sighting the Police operatives, he stepped down from the motorcycle and took to his heels, which raised a strong suspicion.
“The suspect was chased by the Police team who arrested him. During the spot search, he was found with a Baretta pistol.
“In a further search of his residence, a military camouflage cap, knicker and a jacket were recovered,” he added.
Abiodun said that when the suspect was interrogated, he confessed to having been a member of a cult group known as “Vikings”.
The police spokesman said that the suspect claimed to have bought the pistol from a resident of Suleja at the cost of N300,000.
Abiodun said that the suspect informed investigators that he was a photographer on campus and a friend gave him the camouflage.
The police public relations officer said that further investigation into the case was ongoing and the command was on the heels of the accomplices of the suspect. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
