Rachel Wandeto: Husband of slain woman laments after her family insists on burying her

Tensions are emerging between Rachel Wandeto’s maternal and matrimonial families after her husband accused her siblings of denying him the opportunity to bury her.

Wandeto died a little over a week ago after a petrol attack, weeks after she rose to the limelight after getting a tattoo of President Ruto’s face and political slogan.

Speaking to Paxson TV, the sister of Rachel’s widower lamented that he had been sidelined in the burial plans, with her mother and siblings insisting that she will be buried in her father’s home in Kirinyaga.

According to her, Peter Njaramba has been denied permission to bury Rachel because he failed to fulfil all the dowry requirements and payments.

The widower’s family said the decision was unfair because he stood by the singer until her last breath in the hospital, after the petrol attack.

“They were married for 14 years and have two kids. It shocks me that he cannot bury her because of unfulfilled dowry requirements. Rachel was close to me like a sister. Why can’t my brother bury his wife?” she lamented on his behalf.

The woman noted that Rachel’s kids are still traumatised by their mum’s attack. She also claimed that her in-laws are yet to go and check on the children.

“These kids are yet to see the family members from the other side. Why is that the case? This little one keeps asking me when his mum will come back. It brings me sadness. Rachel’s mum and siblings should be here to console them,” she added.

She also clarified that Njaramba and Rachel had not separated as widely claimed.

“They were together for 14 years. Even after Rachel was attacked, it was her husband who rushed her to the hospital. Her burial permit mysteriously disappeared after her body was released. Her siblings claim they do not have it. So where is it?” she asked.
