According to report by Tribune News on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, Reno Omokri has disclosed details of his trip to Peru, where he investigated allegations linking former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi to drug trafficking activities.…....
Omokri explained that the investigation was prompted by claims made by former Niger Delta militant leader Asari Dokubo, who alleged that Obi was connected to a woman imprisoned in Peru for drug-related offences. According to Omokri, his findings showed that the accusations were untrue.
He said he travelled to Peru after previously visiting the United States in September 2022 to verify the academic records of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at Chicago State University.
Omokri stated that despite political differences at the time, he publicly released documents and videos confirming that Tinubu attended and graduated from the institution.
Following the Chicago investigation, Omokri said he continued to Peru to examine claims that Obi sponsored a female drug courier who was later arrested and implicated him during trial proceedings.
According to him, he visited a women’s prison in Lima with a witness and interacted with authorities in the South American country while conducting the inquiry.
He maintained that no evidence linked Obi to the allegations and said he later contacted Dokubo, advising him to stop spreading the claims because they were false and unfair.
Omokri added that Dokubo agreed with his position during their conversation.
The ambassador-designate urged political actors and supporters ahead of the 2027 elections to avoid recycling allegations that had already been investigated and dismissed.
He stressed that he personally financed the investigations out of patriotism and commitment to justice, even when the outcome did not align with his political interests.
Omokri also expressed disappointment that the accusations continue to resurface despite his findings and public explanations regarding the matter.
