“Replace Her With Wizkid And D’banj”- Kate Henshaw Trends As Nigerians Debate Viral “Silent Celebrities” List

Nollywood actress Kate Henshaw has become a trending topic on social media following debates surrounding a viral list of celebrities accused of criticizing former President Goodluck Jonathan but allegedly remaining silent under the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration.

The controversy gained momentum after old tweets from singers Adekunle Gold and Simi resurfaced online, showing their criticism of Jonathan’s administration and support for the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), one of the parties that later merged into the APC.

Following the resurfaced posts, a social media user reportedly compiled a list of 14 public figures who were vocal critics of Jonathan’s government, particularly during the 2012 fuel subsidy protests, but were later accused of going quiet under the APC-led administration.

The list reportedly included actress Kate Henshaw, Pastor Tobi Bakare, Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka, and Pastor Enoch Adeboye among others.

However, many Nigerians quickly pushed back against Kate Henshaw’s inclusion, arguing that the actress has remained vocal on political and social issues even under the current administration.

Several users also defended Pastor Tobi Bakare, insisting both personalities still openly express their views online.

Some critics suggested that other celebrities such as Wizkid, D’banj, Zack Orji, and Jide Kosoko should have been included instead.

Supporters of Kate Henshaw also pointed out that she publicly supported Peter Obi during the 2023 presidential election and has continued to comment on national issues.

Despite the defence from fans, others maintained that the actress was far more outspoken during Jonathan’s administration, particularly during the 2012 Ojota subsidy protests, compared to her stance today.
