Human rights activist and politician Omoyele Sowore has stirred conversation online after speaking on the disparity between the earnings of Nigerian senators and the living conditions of average workers.
In a statement that has since gone viral, Sowore criticized what he described as inequality in the system, highlighting the alleged monthly earnings of lawmakers compared to the struggles of ordinary citizens.
“An average senator earns over ₦30 million monthly and only goes to work like 10 times in a month, but an average worker can’t afford to eat, can’t afford to buy medicine or send their children to school and they work every day,” he said.
He further called for action from citizens, adding: “The greatest work on our hands now is to drive away the enemies of workers who are occupying the position of power in this country.”
The statement has generated mixed reactions on social media, with some Nigerians agreeing with his position while others questioned the practicality of his call.
