Seven killed as trailers crush vehicles in Oyo

Seven persons have been confirmed dead, while a mother and her two children sustained varying degrees of injuries when a trailer ran over them at Elewe-Odo Bus Stop in Ibadan North East Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The state Sector Commandant of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Kehinde Dahunsi, who confirmed this to The NGBREAKINGNEWS in Ibadan, the state capital, on Tuesday, said the injured mother and her children have been rushed to the University College Hospital, Ibadan, for medical attention.

Findings by our correspondent revealed that the accident involved two trailers and two Micra cars.

It was further gathered that all the vehicles were heading towards the same direction when the incident happened.

An eyewitness said, “What happened was that the trailer behind the Micra suddenly lost its brakes while the one ahead of the Micra was negotiating the junction to its office.

“But the Micra was unaware, and suddenly it ran over the Micra and its occupants. Seven people died immediately. The woman who sustained injuries with her twins was quickly rushed to the hospital.

The state Sector Commandant, Dahunsi, while confirming the incident to NGBREAKINGNEWS Metro on the telephone, said, “Yes, it was true. I just left the scene of the accident.

“We went there to carry out the rescue. The accident involved two trailers and two Micras.

“It was a case of break failure. One of the trailers was trying to negotiate the turn to his company with the Micra behind, but unfortunately, the trailer behind the Micra lost control and ran over them.

“Seven people died on the spot, and we were able to rescue a woman and her twins. They have been rushed to UCH for medical treatment while the dead bodies have been deposited at Odogbo Cantonment Barracks’ Mortuary,” the FRSC Sector Commandant explained.
