She Told Me She Had A Wealthy Uncle Who Could Pay The Ransom, I Initiated The Kidnapping– Baiyegun

A 30-year-old teacher and church choir master, Nathaniel Baiyegun, has confessed to being involved in the kidnapping and death of his former student, a 16-year-old girl preparing to retake her WAEC examinations in Ogun State.…....

According to a report by Nigerian Tribune, Baiyegun, who taught Physics and Further Mathematics at a private school in Ogijo, said he reconnected with the student in April after not seeing her for about a year. He explained that during their conversation, the girl reportedly complained about her previous WAEC results, after which he introduced her to a coaching arrangement.

He further alleged that the situation escalated after discussions with an acquaintance, during which the idea of a fake kidnapping was proposed, based on claims that the student had a wealthy uncle who could pay a ransom. Baiyegun admitted that he initiated and executed the plan, during which the girl was reportedly kept in an uncompleted building behind the school premises.

According to his confession, he used the victim’s phone to demand ₦3 million from her family as ransom. He also stated that when the girl complained of difficulty sleeping, he gave her sleeping tablets.

He claimed that upon returning later, he discovered she was struggling to breathe, after which he transported her on a motorcycle and dumped her body in a river in the Ogijo area.

Baiyegun further confessed that even after the girl had died, he still collected ₦500,000 from her father as ransom, which he said he later spent largely on online sports betting.

In his words, he stated: “The intention was to collect money from her family. She told me her father could not afford to pay the ransom, but that she had a wealthy uncle who could pay. I initiated the kidnapping.”

The case has sparked outrage, with calls for swift prosecution and stronger protection for students in educational environments.
