Shock in Minna as Newly Married Man Killed in Early Morning Attack

Jafar Abdullahi Dabawu, 39, was killed by suspected assailants at his home opposite the Maitumbi Police Station in the early hours of Thursday, May 21, 2026, at around 3am shortly after he participated in the House of Assembly primaries.

According to a resident, Muhammad Adamu, the deceased had only recently started his new life as a married man.

He revealed that the attackers went directly to his home and hacked him to death with machetes, leaving the entire community in shock and grief.

The Niger State Police Command spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed that residents raised an alarm which prompted officers in the area to respond immediately.

On arrival, they found Jafar lying in a pool of blood and rushed him to the General Hospital in Minna, where he was sadly pronounced dead by doctors.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the attackers wore masks before forcing their way into the residence, using dangerous weapons that left severe injuries on the victim’s chest and face.

Police have since launched an investigation and are working to identify and apprehend those responsible for the dastardly act.
