Suspect nabbed for defrauding Ogun food vendor N2,600

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 23-year-old man, Adeshola Muyiwa, for allegedly defrauding a food vendor of N2,600 in the Agbado area of the state using a fake bank transfer alert as proof of payment.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Babaseyi Oluseyi, disclosed this in a statement on Monday.

According to Oluseyi, the suspect, who was alleged to have been involved in multiple fake transfers within the community, was arrested following a report at the Agbado Division on Sunday.

He noted that preliminary investigations revealed that Muyiwa had purchased food worth N2,600 from the vendor and allegedly presented a fake transfer alert as proof of payment.

Oluseyi stated, “The arrest was effected on 17/05/2026 at about 1145hrs following a report that at about 0800hrs of the same date, the suspect visited a food vendor at Owolanwa Junction, Agbado, purchased food items worth N2,600, and fraudulently presented a fake transfer alert as proof of payment.

“Prompt response and coordinated investigative action by operatives of Agbado Division led to the swift arrest of the suspect.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect had been operating a consistent pattern of fake and scheduled transfer scams across Agbado and neighbouring areas, targeting unsuspecting members of the public.”

The PPRO added that upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to having amassed the sum of N10 million from the fraudulent act.

Oluseyi added, “During interrogation, he reportedly confessed to engaging in the fraudulent activity over a period of time, with proceeds from such acts allegedly running into approximately N10,000,000.

“The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, Bode Ojajuni, commended the professionalism, vigilance, and operational effectiveness of the officers of the Agbado Division for their swift response and successful apprehension of the suspect.

“He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to sustaining the fight against financial and cyber-enabled crimes across the state.”

Oluseyi concluded that Ojajuni urged traders to be vigilant and ensure that they confirm transactions before releasing goods.
